I read that when you have a damaged spark plug wire, it can cause the gas to leak to other areas of the car, including possibly damaging the catalytic converter. How often is this the case? My car is in the shop today and they're fixing the spark plugs but i'm just wondering if my catalytic converter might also be damaged now? Is this something I should bring up with I pick up the car? Is it something they can check so that I know if that's the next problem I'll run into? Thanks.

Hello,

How long have you been driving the vehicle with the problem?

It has been my experience that most people won't drive the vehicle to long before getting fixed. And the cat is usually not damaged.

Also in most cases when a wire it will still ignite the fuel in the cylinder, it just won't be a complete burn. And there won't be enough unburned fuel getting by to cause and damage unless you run it for a very long time before getting it fixed.
