1996 Mazda Truck 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

after a fully charged battery connected and no key turned on, doors shut. The battery loses power slowly but constant just sitting. Last time it sat for 3 weeks. When I tried to start it, it was dead.I tried to charge it and it couldn't hold a charge, dead cell. How can I find out what is causing this?

Hi Hardrock2254,

You need to test for parasitic drain.

An ammeter is required.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Connect an ammeter between the battery terminal and negative cable.
Close all doors.
Disconnect hood switch if equipped.
Wait a few minutes for the system to stabilise.
Note the amperage. If it is more than 0.05 amp, something is not turning off causing the drain.

Start by pulling the fuses and note which fuse results in changes in the amperage reading.
