Hello. I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5. The emergency break light on the dash comes on at random times while I'm driving and then turns off randomly. Some times it stays on for a long time and other times it's just for a couple of seconds. This happens even if I've not touched the breaks.

Any suggestions?

Take the plastic off the emergency brake area, Look for the switch. It could be dirty or loose. It will be easy to tell when you find it by tinkering with it. Good Luck

HAve it checked out by your dealer. It is most likely a rear speed sensor failer.

Cosmo is right. It not a common failure but it does happen. If you sense an odd transmission shift don't wait, go to the dealer. It is a small price to pay to preclude a major failure.
