1993 Mazda Protege LX 140,000 miles
hi, my car has a brake problem. The warning light for brakes stays on, so I check the fluid and found it was gone. So I replaced it and tried testing the brakes. They maintain normal pressure for only a few moments then went strtaight to the floor. I checked underneath and all the fluid leaked out. I've been told tht this is caused by messed master cylinder. But when I looked under the car I notced the brake fluid was also on these pipes to the rear(brake lines?) How can I be sure exactly what the problem is and what is the best course of action?
Thanks in advance.

You do have leaks on your brakes line, remove the leaking line and take it to an auto parts store to buy the right lengh one. Do not forget to bleed the brakes after replacement.

The year protege you have loves to get brake line leaks around the top of the fuel tank and near the firewall when it turns to go under the vehicle.

More than likely if you have this leak, it is easier to just replace both brake lines to tthe back and then replace the lines to eiter rear wheel (they will probably be in just as bad of shape).

Most times I would say make your own lines, but I think the lines only cost $35 cnd each. So why both with making the lines when you can bu ythe ones from your local Mazda dealer that are the right leangth and have all the correct bends in them. I myself have done this to my own protege years ago.

Good luck, its a messy job
