I have a 2000 Mazda MPV that runs great. It has 122,000 miles on it and has started a noise under the hood that I can only describe as like a vacuum cleaner being turned on and off. I don't notice any change in the car's performance. I can't hear it when I open the hood as it doesn't seem to make the sound then.

it's probably the radiator cooling fan, they are electric, and only run when needed, or whe the a/c is on...

I thought about that but it's getting louder. Should I be concerned?

Well...when the noise happens try unplugging the fan to be sure thats what is making the noise, then plug it back in, if it gets too loud, the bearing in the motor may be going, at that point change the fan motor!
