While idling at engine temperature, I'm experiencing lifter tick coming from #1 and 4 cylinders what are the possible causes?

Thank you, I'm sorry for not letting you know that I had performed what you had suggested in my prior troubleshoot(just before I figured I needed to consult you on this site) when I received your answer from my questionas to your answer, I have done all of the basic inspections, there were no engine specs available in Chilton, or in Haynes. Upon inspection, the 16 valve dual O.H.C. Intake cam looks just fine. There did not appear to be any abnormal wear or any imperfections, that I could see as I call them, pan lifters were a bit sticky within there bore, I freed them up with Lucas Lube, which enabled rotation as well. Measured lash between them all, the average lash was approximately.002. Also with a mirror and a bright illumination, I was able to inspect valve springs for cracks and imperfections. They all appeared good. Finding that tapping sound with a stethoscope located around#1 cylinder injector at curb idle. Sound seems to dissipate with increased rpm, but returns to a curb idle. The longer it idles, the louder it seems to get, very frustrating! Have you heard a similar type of condition happening before, or known anyone to have heard this type of noise from an injector on the Mazda 3?

Hi johnboy57, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check and test the injector solenoid resistances on those cylinders if okay could be a lifter leakdown problem or a worn camlobe on it
