Master and slave for clutch

Saturday I was unable to shift down or shift into reverse while the engine was running. I could only shift up by revving the engine. I smelled a burning smell. I took it to my mechanic, he said the fluid had leaked out of the master/slave cylinders. He replaced the cylinders but said there was some air that would bleed off after a few days (no bleeder valve). Sunday I was having just as much trouble shifting as I did on Saturday. Any thoughts on possible causes or on the bleed-off issue would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: It is a 4.0L, not a 2.5L. I selected incorrectly.

The burning smell sounds as if the clutch is slipping, if the drive is taken up with the pedal well up off the floor the clutch may well be slipping. Do you have good pedal pressure with the clutch pedal or is it soft and has a lot of free play?

The pedal pressure was fine before the cylinders were replaced. It seemed softer after.

Could still be air trapped in the system, where is drive felt? How high is the pedal? Have you done a stall test to see if the clutch mechanical's are okay?

Turns out there was still air trapped in the system. Had to be manually bled off by pumping the clutch.
