I have a 1992 jeep cherokee laredo 5 speed manual trans.4.0 litre strait 6 with 142000 miles. When I disengage the clutch and put it in reverse it stays in gear with the clutch pedal in. I am able to drive it but I have to make sure I can leave the clutch pedal out by geting it in to neutral and useing the clutch and not leaving the pedal in for to long. What is this problem? Thanks.

That was confusing. Has the Jeep ever had a new clutch? At 142k, it might be time

On my 1946 Willys (64 years young),

Similar problem, before I replaced All clutch components----and the Front Seal on the Transmission

Seems that "Tranny Juice" was getting on the disc and making it "Stick"

I was able to "Gun" the engine to make it come, loose, but it pretty much continued to do it ALL OF THE TIME, until I began my restoration (in '91)

"WILLY" is fine now, especially since "HE" stays garaged, His younger brother is sick right now, I gotta rebuild his tranny inna day or two ('77 CJ5, 33 years Young)

"Willy" and I are not out "Cattin' Around!" (It's Cold in him right now!). We've been on the lookout for a "Young Thing", like a 2010 Wrangler! (Really its, lookin' for a baby to Adopt!)

I hope you do not spend a lot of $$$ to get 'im fixed!

Merry Christmas!

Either your hydraulic clutch actuating system is messing up or your pressure plate sounds like it's going bad. Did you check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder?
