Losing power

Runs good for a few blocks and then loses power, if I shut the engine off and then start it up it runs good for a couple of blocks then does it again.

There are many things which can cause a power loss. Low fuel pressure, a plugged catalytic converter, weak ignition. If the check engine light is on, first I would scan the computer to get the diagnostic trouble codes. They can prove very beneficial. If it is not on, we have to eliminate things, one at a time. Here are some links that discuss ignition issues, fuel pressure issues, catalytic converter issues and how to check them. Since it happens after driving a short distance, I would start with fuel pressure. Here are the links:
