There are many things which can cause a power loss. Low fuel pressure, a plugged catalytic converter, weak ignition. If the check engine light is on, first I would scan the computer to get the diagnostic trouble codes. They can prove very beneficial. If it is not on, we have to eliminate things, one at a time. Since it happens after driving a short distance, I would start with fuel pressure. Here are the links:
