Car has been sitting because it was in having intermittent stuttering. i remember seeing PCM codes although i cannot remember them. Fast forward about two years later i start working on it. starts and drives okay. every other drive it wont shift into overdrive and running rough. changed ATF4. car wont shift out of second now. changed input/output sensors, and crank and cam. car runs better but still stuck in second and no speedometer. scan gives u0101, p1603,p1604, and 0037, 0031. i began thoroughly inspecting harness and connectors. however looking at C1 PCM connector i am not sure if pin 13 is supposed to have a female copper to marry up with pin. i see it as vehicle speed signal on schematics but i cannot find anything to verify if there needs to be a copper piece there. i also didn't make it to the scrapyard before it closed to check on a different one. picture I will send. thanks

Good morning,

The 1603 is the key. It indicates an internal failure in the PCM. It needs to be replaced.

I would start from there as it may be the root cause of failure for the other issues.

Roy

P1603
Descriptor
Pcm Internal Dual-Port Ram Communication
Probable Causes
Fused Ignition Switch Output (Off-Run-Start)
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Internal

Yeah, i was afraid of that. i also back probed and see power at the right pins as well as ground. p1603 cleared out but i am positive the PCM has been going out for a while with all the cars intermittent problems as well as the car being notorious for PCM issues. thanks i will update for sure.

Update April third: Car had P 1604 codes as well as oxygen sensor codes. Change the input and output VSS. Also verified that all grounds and power was good to the PCM. Inspected Wiring harness and all connections. Ordered PCM and installed speedometer is working and car is shifting. PCM was the only issue thank you for your help. Have a great day
