Hi,

I own a used Lexus GS 300 with 61,000 miles on it. Recently it has started making a noise in two instances:

(a) after first starting the car, I will step on the brake to move the transmission into R from P. The car will move slightly under power and make a "clunk" sound.

(b) this sound also occurs when applying the brakes and making a turn (especially right hand).

The sound doesn't occur when slowing to a stop in a straight line. I took the car to a mechanic and he agreed he could hear the noise but was unable to pinpoint the source.

Any ideas?
Best regards!

Check the motor mount on the front of the engine. Also check the right side strutt mount.

Have the curb idle speed check and for the clunking check the center support bearing and U joint/s

(b) this sound also occurs when applying the brakes and making a turn (especially right hand).

Could be the CV joint/boot
