I am thinking about purchasing a used 1999 range rover with 112k miles. There is nothing wrong with it except there is a oil leak. There seems to be oil drips under the engine on the pavement. I looked under the hood and there seems to be oil leaking from the side of the engine based on residue i've seen. Could this be a seal? Ive read these car are prone to oil leaks since the Brits have not yet mastered it. I understand fixing a land rover can be expensive. Do you have any suggestions on what I should check to try to determine if this could be a issue costing a couple hundred to fix or much more than that. Really do love the truck but dont want to take on another persons problems.

Based on your description I would tend to view the leak as coming from a gasket rather than a seal but without actually seeing the vehicle it would be impossible to advise anymore !! Land/Range rover's can be an expensive vehicle to maintain but not more so than any other upmarket SUV .. As a side note !! Land/Range Rover is solely owned by the Ford motor company since 1997 with headquarter's in New Jersey and manufacturing plant's all over the United State's so your vehicle has probably never been touched by a Brit !!!

hope this helps
