No, the Check Engine light has never come on.
After doing some research I narrowed the list of possibilities to four.
1. Idle speed control monitor
2. Fuel injector system
3. Vacuum leaks and/or idle air control valve
4. Correct cruise control setting
So it looks as if I was going in the right direction. Now I can give the mechanics some idea of what to look for when I take my car in for servicing. I don't have my brothers to help me with car problems any more and I know how women can be taken advantage of by unscrupulous mechanics and unneeded repairs - even at the dealership. Thanks again.
