The sensor is part of the valve stem and will not be damaged when you remove the tire. However, I don't recommend using a tire sealant. Have you been able to locate the leak? If not, try this.
Take a spray bottle, add some dishwashing soap and water together in it. Spray the tire all over with the solution. If there is a leak, it will bubble where the leak is located. If the leak is in the tread area, just plug it. If along the wheel bead, you will need to remove the tire, clean the wheel, and they actually make a sealant for this purpose that can be applied. If the sidewall of the tire has been punctured, do not plug it. The plug will not hold on the sidewall. Have it checked by a tire shop to see if they can patch it from inside or if the tire needs to be replaced.
