Kia Sportage 2000 - Alternator\Noise

Driving home the other night , i noticed a noise coming from under the hood, then all a sudden my dashboard lights and my headlights became very bright and the battery and brake indicator lights came on. Is this a sign of a bad Alternator. and what about the noise, it's not a metalic noise or nor do i see any broken belts ,what could this be ?

LAternators make noise when they are working hard, sounds like the regulator popped and that caused the alt to go "full" charge, resulting in you lights becoming bright
