Kia Sportage 2000 - Alternator\Noise

Driving home the other night, I noticed a noise coming from under the hood, then all a sudden my dashboard lights and my headlights became very bright and the battery and brake indicator lights came on. Is this a sign of a bad Alternator. And what about the noise, it's not a metalic noise or nor do I see any broken belts, what could this be?

LAternators make noise when they are working hard, sounds like the regulator popped and that caused the alt to go "full" charge, resulting in you lights becoming bright
