1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport (6-cyl; A/C); 50K miles on rebuilt engine.

At idle and operating temp, oil pressure drops to "0" and check guages light illuminates. Holding engine in the 1500 to 2000 rpm range will hold oil pressure at 20-25psi. Dip stick indicates proper oil level. No other symptoms. Water pump was replaced about a month ago.

There are a number of things that will cause this, so we need to start with the basics. Here is a guide that will get us started:

The most likely cause of this is a restriction on the pick-up screen which is most likely sludge.

So, if that is the case, we need to change the oil and add one of the engine flush additives to see if we can improve this. Basically, you add this and then change the oil again after 1,000 miles.

The next likely things is the oil pump is failing, or the engine is worn out and the tolerances in the bearings is too large to create the needed pressure.

However, let's start with this info because if the oil pump is failing or the engine is worn out then that is a more serious condition.

Let me know what questions you have.

Thanks
