Yes, a TPS could be your answer. I am unfamiliar with the newer engines but I know that TPS has caused vehicles to surge because of the torque converter engaging and disengaging. Also, sometimes a sensor will not set your check engine light off because the sensors need to break a certain barrier before that happens but they could still be bad. If you have a check engine light on, some of your local auto parts stores will check your codes for free just call to confirm that they have this capability first.
