Electrical problem
1974 Jeep CJ5 V8 Four Wheel Drive Manual

When I got the jeep I had to jump it off. So I had the battery tested and it was no good so I replaced it. And it fired rite up. But by the next morning it wouldn't start up unless I jumped it off. I checked the back of the alternater with a knife to c if the magnet would stick and it did so I knew it was chargin. That is all I have done so far.

See my profile. The ole knife trick may show you that the feilds are on. But we need to get a little more accurate.

Are you going out to your Baby and he is Stone Dead?

Is there some juice left. Attempt to turn over. Or clicks?

Do you turn it over 5 million times before it will start? (Thus running down the battery)

Or does he fire right up. When he is jumped?

Need to get or borrow a Voltmeter. Perform 2 EZ tests for now! Both are at the POS and NEG Battery posts.

Charge your battery overnight with a charger

As soon as it is charged, remove the charger and let the Battery sit 30 minutes.

TEST THE POS & NEG BATERY POST W/ THE METER (Make a note on what the voltage is at this time)

Then let it sit 24 hours untouched (after the charger is removed). No accessories turned on. Do not try to crank him up

It is now one day Later after your charge up procedure. You have not used anything electric on your Jeep

1) What is your Battery voltage, ENGINE NOT RUNNING?

2) What is your Battery voltage ENGINE RUNNING? (Even if you have to jump him off to obtain this info)

Respond?
