I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, with a V.8 5.2 L MPI 250000KM, and it is leaking alot of oil. Now i just want an opinion before i replace the rear main seal. I got under the Jeep expecting to fully delve into backing the tranny off and replacing the rear main seal but a finger sized hole caught my attention. It is right between the pan and the inspection plate and looks like it could be my problem seeing as the V.8 has been leaking ALOT of oil. If you could tell me whether it is just an inspection hole or if it is my problem i would be very grateful. My next post in about 10 min should follow with a picture of the hole and its location.

Hmmm just for some calrification seeing as the pic is orientated in a weird way the bottom right hand corner is where the Pan would be, upper right hand would be the tranny and if it helps this is all on the drivers side.

Have you looked at the oil pressure sender?Sometimes they blow out and the oil wll run down the pan rail to the rear. Also, has th eoil been changed recently, for some reason the filter gaskets like to stick to the block on Dodges, doubling the oil filter gasket will cause a huge leak. Look at those and get back to me

I checked the sender and it appeared to be fine and there is no residue of oil around like the rest of the engine, as well I took a look at the filter and I don't see any second gasket and as well there's no residue of oil on it either. Also after sitting in the garage for a day there is a little puddle of oil developing underneath it telling me that is is leaking all the time. As well does anyone know what that hole could be?
