Crankshaft sensor

1991 jeep cherokee w/190,000miles. The vehicle has a new fuel pump and filter. It will start and run at idle for approx. 5 seconds and then dies as if it has run out of fuel. At this time if I rev the engine it seems to run longer before it dies. If I disconnect the crankshaft sensor it will not start at all, does this mean that the sensor is good? Or could it be another sensor causing the problem

The crank sensor provides info to the computer that lets it fire tha spark plugs. When it fails you will have a no start condition. When the CPS is starting to go bad it usually will kill the engine while it is running for a while but then the engine will restart.

Did you replace the fuel filter?
Is there an obstruction to the airflow (clogged air filter, squirrels nest, etc)?
Have you ever replaced the O2 sensor?
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc?

Good hunting and post back. :)
