Well, I feel stupid. I have jumped started hundreds of cars in my life. The other day my 2000 Jeep Cherokee died as I was listening to the radio in the driveway without the engine running. NO big deal RIGHT? I pull out my handy jumper cables and hook them to my other car. And then onto my Jeep. What I didnt realize was that I accidently hooke them up backwards on my Jeep. (Black on Red and Red on Black) OOOOOOPS! After I was back in the car trying to start it and getting no turn over, I realized what I did. By the time I got back around to the front of the car the Jumper cables had completely melted, dripping hot rubber all over my Engine. Now the Jeep will turn over but won't start at all? Have I fried the main computer? Does anyone know what I can do to avoid buying a new computer for $700? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked all the main fuses. You may have blown a fuse for the fuel, ignition etc. I know some manufactures have built in precautions to pervent the computer from damage in case of reverse polarity hook up which disconnects power to to the computer when this occurs. I don't know if your car has it. Good luck Backyardmechanic
