My 94 cherokee sucks I put a new alternator in and jump started it. I took the cables off and it died instantly.

Is the battery dead/low? Try charging it first? Or leave jumpers on for awhile?

Does your battery/alternator light work? Alternator needs the circuit to 'turn on'? Or maybe you have a wiring issue?

Firstly taking of the battery cable when the engine is running is dangerous as the voltage spike when re fitting the cable can damage electrical equipment, have the battery fully charged and load tested and with the engine running check the alt charge rate with a volt meter.
