Noises problem
2000 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

The jeep makes a high pitch squeal whenever the car is cold. It does not occur 100% of the time. Mainly when engine is still cold and only when you let off the accelerator. If you press the accelerator it stops. Does not sound like a loose belt squeal. Any ideas?

The belt ! That's my immediate thought ! Belts do stretch and need to be tightened every so often, and will "squeal" when cold more so than when hot. Easy way to check, get it "tightened" up a little, see if problem still there. If it still is, open hood before starting, start, then look and listen to try to isolate the area of the noise...
