1998 Jeep Cherokee oil pressure

Im driving down the road, at normal speeds, when all of a sudden my oil pressure drops to 0, I shut off the engine, and started it back up, and the pressure comes up to about 40 psi, this has happened to me numerous times, one thing I do know is the rear main seal is going bad and needs replacing soon, but what could cause a crazy situation like oil pressure dropping to 0

If oil level is OK
change the oil pressure switch
get it from the dealer
I replaced it three times from after market
worked for a day or two
get it from dealer its going on its 7 month
not much of a price difference
let me know
