1997 Jeep Cherokee Won't Start

Often times when I start my Jeep for the first time for the day it takes a while to start. I have to keep the key turned until finally it turns over. Could this be my fuel injector?

Try turning the key on, then off, then on then off then on then off then try starting it.

Does it start better?

Notice excessive white exhaust on first start up? Black smoke?
