1997 Jeep Cherokee wont fire

Will start while spraying starter fluid in it wondering where the fuel pump is located and how to check if its working I can hear it humming when the key is turned

Use a gage and check for proper fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage, if you don't have one. How long since the fuel filter was changed? As far as the filter make sure there is no pressure on the system before taking any lines loose. You might also use a noid lite and check for injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?
