My check engine light comes on periodically after I have been driving about 5 miles on the highway on my way to work. When I stop it goes out. It started 2 weeks ago and it came on driving to and back from work that week, then it came on once driving to work last week, then yesterday it came on driving to and from work, then today it came on after I had driven about 10 miles. When I am driving around town it has never come on. Also it only blows cold air when I am driving and if I try to run the air conditioner while driving and stopping around time the overflow overflows. I am on a very fixed low budget and am needing to know what I should do.

About the check engine light.
Pull the codes and report back.
https://www.2carpros.com/dia/how_to_scan_trouble_codes.htm

about the AC and running hot problem.
Most likely the cooling fan is not working correctly
or
there is debris in the fins of the radiator and or AC condenser. keeping the air from being pulled through them and cooling down.

From OP via email.

A lot of auto parts stores will check your codes for free,
hoping to sell you parts.

I was able to get the code and it is the oxygen sensor. How soon do I need to get this fixed.

It's not a critical part.

But you should get it fixed soon, without the information from the sensor, then engine cannot run at its best.
Possibly use more fuel.
And in the long term could cause your catalytic converter to fail prematurely
