Engine Light Came On. Help

My engine light came on yesterday on my 2k/stype. It has 37,882 miles, and as far as I can tell its running fine. Can someone tell me if this has happened to them and if so what you did to get it fix. I would hate to have to drive 2.5 hours to my closest jag dealer for something that I may be able to do myself.
Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Those lights come on if there is a problem. Check the gas cap to be sure it is on all the way, if not the car needs to be scanned

Auto zone will run a computer check for free. Ithere not alwasy right but they can give you a good idea. Try that.

It can be one of two things. Either your gas cap. Because there is a recall on a redesigned gas cap around your year model. Most of the time if the car is running well but the light comes on it is an EVAP code usually a very small leak.
