I turned the key in the ignitiion to start the car this morning, the engine turned over (slowly as it usually does after not driving it for a week), it almost caught, then I heard a "POP!" From the right side of the engine compartment and it is not starting again. Turning the ignition now produces one click. This morning was very "dewey" - wetness was everywhere, and I suspect inside the electrical components under the hood. Battery is fine. I drive the car once per week just to keep it going - if it sits longer than that I have to buy a new battery.

Hi Rodger,

Thank you for the donation.

The pop sould could have been caused by a misfire in the cylinders when the engine was about to start but did not.
You mentioned the engine cranks slowly, it is a sign of insufficient power from the battery. After cranking and not starting, the power could have drained to a level it is insufficient to crank the engine.

I would suggest testing the battery voltage, if it is below 12.2 volts, the likely hood of it providing enough power to crank the starter is low. Try using a jumper and see if you can start.
