1. CV boot leaking oil.
2. Metal shavings in transmission fluid.
3. Drive shaft was so loose, could be moved by hand.
4. Oil on the bell housing.
5. Transmission fluid leaking from the differential to the driveshaft.
He also said that the differential housing had a yellow number written on it and that his experience was a that's a sign of a junkyard part. Maybe Jag lables parts this way.
Had the car towed to dealer. They are replacing the driveshaft, transmission, differential, gear box, etc, under warranty.
Questions:
1. How do I know that the real problem with the car wasn't the transmission all the time, but the dealer knew they could get money for a clutch repair out of me since clutch is not warrantied unless the failure is caused by a warranteed part?
2. Could the leak from the CV boot or other leak cause for the clutch plate to fail? If that is the case, then the clutch would have been covered under warranty.
3. How do I know if the dealer didn't mess with the transmission on purpose so that they could now get money from Jag for warranty work, after they also got my money for clutch repair.
4. How do I know if the clutch was replaced at all? On the lift, it looks as if the bolts had been loosened, but I wouldn't know what a new flywheel looked like if it hit me in the face.
4. After repairs, can I rely on this car to travel distances? I have had the car for less than 10K miles and it has less than 40K miles on it.
It seems too coincidental that the day after I get my car back, the transmission fails.
I am filing a Freedom of Information Act request with our attorney general to see if there have been other complaints lodged against the dealer for mechanic fraud. But, I need to have as much info as possible. I am suspicious. Please advise, and thanks so much in advance.
