I have a 1993 Isuzu Amigo 2.6L and out of the clear blue sky within a days time it started to hesitate on acceleration. It has 149000 miles on it. I had another car do the same thing come to find out the timing belt was shot. SInce I am unfamiliar with the Isuzu engines but still using basic knowledge can it be the timing belt be going bad? The weekend is here and I was going to start checking for timing etc. Also in a case like this does it make sense to give it a complete tune up when doing something like this? I always had when ever I would have to change a timing belt or chain just to get it properly timed.

Thanks for the help

I have a 1991 amigo with the 2.6 liter, and at around 130,000 miles, I noticed the "sluggish" acceleration when giving it 3/4 or more throttle. I did a complete tuneup on it, including, but not limited to the following:

cap and rotor (OEM from Isuzu)
plug wires (OEM from Isuzu)
Nippendenzo spark plugs (OEM - don't buy into the hype of splitfire or platinum plugs)
fuel filter
fuel pump
butterfly cleanup with carb spray
K&N air filter
I replaced ALL vaccum hoses and other hoses I could get my hands on, which made a big difference because they all had cracks in them or didn't fit good onto whatever they were supposed to be fitting onto.

The cap and rotor seemed to make the biggest difference in getting my power back. I also removed the A/C belt since it went out a while back. I plan on replacing the compressor and get it back and running though.
