I have the vehicle listed above with 5.7 vortec.
I have change crankshaft sensor, can sensor, ICM plug wires. I get no signal to the coil from ICM. I have ohm wires from PCM. I've check voltage to all sensors there good. I've check all the signals from CLP, to cams enor, to ICM to knock sensor. I've owned wires from senors to PCM. I've check for my ground. I can't get the ICM to send signal to coil. I get the signal from PCM to the ICM but that's as far it will go. Don't tell me the ICM is bad cause I've have tried 5 different ICM, bought new one and the last 3 of the I had tested at store before I left. What the heck? By the way I've got good fuel pressure check all the fuses. All the sensors that are responsible in starting the truck check out right. From ground to signal. I can't get the ICM signal to coil.
No security light is on, no codes. One thing I'd like to know on my coil I have a plug in that had 3 terminals one is pink wire which is my 12 volts, the other one in middle is the white wire for the tech, the 3rd circuit is the Whittemore and black stripe wire that the ICM sends its signal to coil to make it fire. Okay on all three circuit I have 120 volts coming in on pink wire I have 12 volts coming out on the tech wire, a different 12 volts coming out of the white/black strip down it which is my signal wire from ICM. How can you push 12 volts to a 5 volt circuit? When I turn key on the coil would be sending 12 volts to the ICM 5 volt circuit on signal wire. How is that? Is there someone out there that think so they can tell me a trick of why it won't produce a signal to coil to fire? I've asked and asked who can be smarter than anyone else out of 1,000 so of people.
Please show me and make me feel stupid. I've check voltage ohm wires. I've been. Working on this for 3 weeks still haven't got anywhere.
I know someone has had the same problem out there as I do. Help me!

Good morning,

Use a test light at the ignition coil. Test the negative side of the coil for power with the key on. Then crank the engine and see if the test light flashes. If it flashes, the module is working. This means the coil itself is bad.

If it does not, then there is an issue with that part of the system.

Let me know.

You did replace the driver module, is that correct?

Roy

The ignition coil driver module is mounted on a bracket next to the coil. The VCM signals the ICD to turn ON primary current to the ignition coil by pulling the IC line high (4 volts). The ICD turns the primary current ON and OFF by applying and removing the ground to the primary winding at the appropriate time. This module is of minimum function. The module does not contain backup calibrations that allows the engine to continue to run if the IC signal is lost.

That is the problem I can't get the signal from the ICM to the coil. Like I said I have ohm tested for ground and the signal for crank. Cam ICM there all good. I have bought 3 ICM's they were tested at store each time and I still cant get signal out of ICM to coil. Why is that. I get signal from PCM to ICM but no signal to coil. Does the wire from ICM to coil have to be hooked up to the coil for it to produce the signal.

Again, did you do the test I listed?

Ohming wires does not tell you anything but the wire itself. The wire needs to be load tested to be sure it can carry a load.

Step back and start over and tell me the results.

Yes, no signal and check continuity through the wire. I have checked for signal on the wire no signal on or of connector to coil. I have check the white wire from PCM id sending signal.

Please, stop.

Please do the test I requested. I did not tell you to do any wire testing. Use the test light and tell me if it is flashing.

You are way overthinking this issue. Need to start at basics.

Load test a wire that supposedly sends no more than five volts when it is the same size that a 12 volts that feeds it. The wires are in good condition not broken or damaged. Does the coil suppose to have 12 volts coming out the tach circuit? And the circuit that the ICM that try to apply 5 volts to.

Anyway, you say test the ground circuity on the coil is that the circuit that the ICM is trying to send the signal to cause there is not a plus or negative signs on the coil. I think in the hans book it shows positive but no negative signs.

The pink is the positive and has 12 volts. The negative is not the white wire. It is the other wire. That is 12 volts as well. That is the wire you are or still need to test for the flashing as I indicated.

The tach wire is a pulsed signal wire to the dash to be converted to a signal which shows up on the tach.

When I turn the key on the pink wire is hot. The other 2 prongs witch is the tact and the ground are hot as well.

Okay, now put your test light on the negative wire with the coil hooked up. Have someone crank the engine and see if the test light flashes.

Okay, then the module is not working or being commanded to send spark.

See how easy it was to do that test?

Okay, at the module. Do you have 12 volts at the pink wire?

I also attached a diagram of the ground for the module. Make sure the ground is clean and tight.

Otherwise, you are looking at a PCM.

As in previous messages I'm still stuck in the driveway. No spark one day then no fuel the next. Going on a year I have replaced everything except the ignition. If I get a complete ignition replacement would that start my tahoe. When it died I was driving like normal no problems and a half tank of gas just died while in motion hasn't started since.
