Welcome to 2CarPros.

This could be the result of a couple things. Components such as coolant temperature sensors or even the fuel pump can cause a hard or no start condition.

First, here is a link that explains what to look for when you have a crank/no start condition:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-cranks-but-wont-start

Now, since it will start with starting fluid, that tells me it is a fuel related issue and not ignition. So, the next thing to do is check fuel pressure. This should be done when the vehicle has sat long enough to cause the problem. Here is a link that shows how in general pressure is tested. What I need you to pay attention to is fuel pressure drop off. Basically, when the key is turned off, you need to see how long pressure maintains before it slowly drops.

Here are the directions specific to your vehicle for testing fuel pressure. The attached picture correlates with the directions. Also, pressure specifications are included in the directions.

Fuel System - Pressure Test - KV6 - NAS

Service Repair No - 19.50.13

Remove
1. Remove acoustic cover.
2. Position absorbent cloth beneath fuel rail.

WARNING: Fuel vapor is highly flammable and in confined spaces is also explosive and toxic. Always have a fire extinguisher containing foam, CO2, gas or powder close at hand when handling or draining fuel.

3. Up to 03MY: Remove nut and bolt securing coil and position coil aside.

4. Connect adaptor LRT-19-006, to pressure gauge LRT-19-004.
5. Remove schraeder valve cap.
6. Connect pressure gauge to fuel rail schraeder valve.
7. Start engine. Pressure at idle = 3.4 bar. If pressure is below 3.4 bar, suspect the following in order: fuel hoses, filter, regulator and pump.

Refit
1. Stop engine.
2. Disconnect pressure gauge LRT-19-006 and adapter LRT-19-004 from fuel rail.
3. Up to 03MY: Fit and tighten nut and bolt securing coil.
4. Fit acoustic cover.

Take care,

I took my car to a mechanic this morning and was told that the problem was an injector problem. What kind of injector I should buy?

Welcome back:

First, I assume he is talking about the fuel injectors. Is that correct? Did he indicate what the problem was (other than an injector problem) and which injector was bad. It is unlikely that they all went bad at once. There are four of them. I attached a picture of one and circled it. Now, I need to know what is actually wrong with the injector. Do they leak? Are they dirty? The bottom line is if the injectors are leaking or one is leaking, that will cause fuel pressure to drop. That can make for a hard start. But, if that is the case, that is the only injector that needs replaced and not all of them.

Since the car runs good after you start it, I doubt dirt is the issue.

I don't know if you have access to the vehicle at this time, but if you do, I want you to try something.

1) From the off position, turn the key to the run position (don't try starting or engaging the starter). Count to 5 and turn it to the off position. I want you to cycle it like that 3 times. On the 4th time, see if it starts.

Let me know the results. Also, for this vehicle, I would only recommend original equipment parts.

Take care,
Joe
