Electrical problem
1999 Hyundai Accent 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

This morning the car didn't start. The battery appeared to be dead. Absolutely nothing and no power whatsoever. Used a car charger for a few hours. When I then attempted to start the car, all I got was a sort of grinding noise. The engine did not turn over. By this time I have power inside the car.

Hooked uo the car to my other car with battery cables. After a few minutes, I attempted to start the car and the engine attempts to turn very, very slowly and fails to start. I left it hooked up to my other car for 5-10 minutes, same thing. As soon as I remove the bossting cables, the car is absolutely dead with no power.

Hi dannybou,

Test the voltage of the battery and if it more than 12 volts, clean the battery terminals and try again.

When jumping with booster cables that are too low in capacity, it would not work if the original battery is too weak or terminals are not properly tightened.

Also check for a broken ground strap from battery to engine.

Thanks for the reply. What I did this morning is I disconnected the battery from the faulty car. I then connected the battery from my other car via booster cables directly on the cables and not the battery. The car started. I then re-attached the battery and boosted the car and it started. I let the car tun for 30 minutes and then shut it off. When I went to start it again, there was absolutely no power. I used a voltmeter and saw that the voltage was below 1V. So my deduction is that my battery is dead.

Hi dannybou,

If the car had not been sitting around for too long, the battery would not drop to 0 or 1 v unless there is a drain somewhere.
You would normally get about 10 v when the battery fails.

You should check the charging system to see if it is ok.
