Yes, removing the glass is the preferred method. Lower the glass all the way and remove the outer sealing strip(runs along the outside window sill, pushed down on pinch weld). Raise the glass until you can see the clamp fasteners(I believe there are 2). Loosen just enough to lift the glass from the clamps. The glass will come out through the window opening frame, may have to be turned and tilted.
