Car taking a few rolls to start sometimes I have to even give it gas to start after a few rolls of course. Idles at 3,000 rpm's when started then slowly drops to 2,500 then stays around 1,500 for a while. Check light is on but I need to know what to jump and how to figure the codes.

This vehicle has an OBD2 system and requires a scan tool to retrieve codes Here is a quick video showing how it is done:

Based on the symptoms, it sounds like a fuel related issue. Try this.

1) from the off position, turn the key to the run position (engine off) and count to 5
2) turn the key off and then repeat step 1 three more times.
3) next try to start the car.

If the car start normally, suspect a weak fuel pump. If it requires you to hold the pedal to the floor to start, suspect a bad injector or fuel pressure regulator.

Also, here is a link that explains in general how to check fuel pressure:

Here are the directions specific to your vehicle. The attached pics correlate with the directions and the manufacturer's specs are included in the directions. Additionally, the directions include a diagnostic section.

FUEL PRESSURE TEST
1. Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel pipes and hoses by the following procedures.

pic 1

- Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector after removing the rear seat cushion.
- Start the engine and, after it stops by itself, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.
- Connect the fuel pump harness connector.

pic 2

2. Remove the upper eye bolt while holding the fuel filter nut securely.

CAUTION: Cover the hose connection with a shop towel to prevent splashing of fuel caused by fuel residual pressure in the fuel line.

pic 3

3. Using the fuel pressure gauge connector (09353-24000), install the fuel-pressure gauge (09353-24100) the fuel filter. Tighten the bolt to the specified torque.

Tightening torque
Fuel pressure gauge to fuel filter: 25-35 Nm (250-350 kg.cm, 18-26 lbf)

pic 4

4. Connect the battery's negative (-) terminal.

pic 5

5. Apply battery voltage to the terminal for the pump drive and activate the fuel pump: then, with fuel pressure applied, check that there is no fuel leakage from the pressure gauge or connection part.
6. Start the engine and let it idle.
7. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and plug the hose end. Measure the fuel pressure.

Standard valve: 300 kPa (3.06 kg/sq.cm,43.5 psi)

8. Measure the fuel pressure when the vacuum hose is connected to the pressure regulator.

Standard valve: 250 kPa (2.55 kg/sq.cm, 36.2 psi)

pic 6

9. If the results of the measurements made in steps (7) and (8) are not within the standard value, use the table below to determine the probable causes, and make the necessary repairs.

pic 7

10. Stop the engine and check for a change in the fuel pressure gauge reading, which should hold for approximately 5 minutes. If the gauge indication drops, observe the rate of drop. Determine the remove the causes according to the following table.

pic 8

11. Reduce the fuel pressure in the fuel line.
12. Disconnect the hoses and the gauge.

CAUTION: Cover on the hose connection with a shop towel to prevent splashing of fuel caused by fuel residual pressure in the fuel line.

13. Replace the O-ring of the end of the hose.
14. Connect the fuel hose to the delivery pipe and tighten with the specified torque.
15. Check for fuel leakage.

Do this and let me know what you find.

Joe
