I am unable to fill my car. As soon as it starts it shuts off the nozzle. It doesn't matter what gas station or nozzle type I use. My mechanic said my "vapor relief valve" on top of the fuel tank was bad and replaced it. The fix only lasted for 5 fill ups, and now the problem continues.

Hi turk528,

Is the Check Engine Light indicating.

For such problem, the most likely cause would be a malfunction in the EVAP system and pressure builds up while refueling.

There are no TSB on the problem so if there is a trouble code, it would be easier to go about diagnosing the problem.

The mechanic replaced a component and the problem was fixrd for a short while, I would suggest checking around that area for any faults such as kinked or twisted hoses.

Thanks. No the Check Engine Light is not on, and when taken back to the shop they attempted to fill the tank up with no problems, of course. But the next time I attempted to fill the tank the problem was back. The shop is going to look at the Emissions system.

Yes, it should be something to do with the EVAP system which is for emission control.

Hi turk528,

Has your issue been resolved now? Can you please tell me what the final diagnosis/resolution was?

My 2004 Honda Pilot is having the SAME issue. My dealer replaced the Vent Shut Valve, which did not fix the issue, and now Honda is recommending that my dealer replace the entire tank.

Also, have you called American Honda to tell them about the problem? If not, then Please take a moment to call them at (800) 999-1009. Press option 7 to speak to a rep. They will ask for your VIN number, will collect your contact information, and you can tell them about the problem you are having.

I called American Honda today to try and seek assistance from them to no avail. Honda has not issued any service bulletin or recall about this issue yet, and they will not do so unless we all take the time to inform Honda of the problem so that they know there is a larger community of drivers facing this same issue.

Thanks and good luck!
