When we drive our Honda Pilot sometimes when driving we can hear a rattle, then it will go away after a few miles. Checked under the car and on the exhaust one of the brackets is broken, the other is still in place. Is this something that can be welded back, can we just replace the bracket, or will the whole exhaust need to be replaced?
A car repair place here in NY said the whole exhaust will need replacing, but we don't have $900 so trying to find out what other options we have.
Included a picture of the side that is broken.

Thank you.

A good welder can weld that bar together but that is a sign that other parts are just as rusty. Chances are the person who inspected the system is looking out for your long-term best interests. Exhaust system specialty shops will have a wire-feed welder and people experienced in this type of repair, but their business is selling parts. Independent shops may have people more willing to make an attempt at a repair. Get a second opinion from a different shop. As a last resort look for someone who has a small welding business or private welding shop.
