Acura Air Conditioner makes Clicking Noise

I have a 1997 Acura Integra GS 1.8 Ltr DOHC with 112,000 miles. When I turn on my air condition, it feels like it takes a little power from my engine and then it starts making a constant clicking noise until I turn it off. The air is cool but this noise is really worrying me. What do you think this could be? I'm hoping I don't need a new compressor because one shop said it would cost over $700 to fix if that is the case. Please help me out. Also, would this be someone such as a friend who is a mechanic be able to fix? :X

Sounds as though it could be the clutch on the compressor.

Do you think that would be something pricey to replace?

Search for a air conditioner clutch online from parts places and on ebay. Get an idea what the part sells for.
