Suggested Repair

Confirm the wiper motor is turning, then inspect the wiper transmission and linkage arm. The arm was found coming off; replace the detached arm or the wiper linkage assembly so the motor can drive the blades again.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1989 Acura Legend said the windshield wipers stopped working in the rain even though the motor could still be heard running. The expert advised checking the wiper motor transmission and arm and confirming that the motor was actually turning. After looking under the panel, the owner found the arm coming off the wipers, made a temporary fix, and planned to order a replacement arm or the whole assembly.
