my car has white smoke comming out the muffler what does that usually mean

Are you loosing any coolant or oil? Is the smoke white or light grey. If you are loosing coolant then the smoke is the coolant burning, which could mean a leaking head gasket, cracked water jacket in the block or the head.

well its a 95 honda civic and the smoke is white and gives a little smell to it but it has never over heated just one day it started blowing white smoke out]

Pretty easy to diagnose. Have the coolant check and I would bet it is low. Then have the head taken off and checked for cracks and warping. Then get a new head gasket and put it back together but I might suggest as long as you down that far to think about replacing the timing belt and water pump.
