We hear a tapping or clicking noise coming from the engine, and it is pretty loud. The mechanic told us that it was from a bent valve. How much does it cost to replace this. This is a SOHC V tec engine. How long does the labor cost, and how hard is this to do yourself. Also, if there are bearing inside the engine, and found in the oil filter, where could these bearings come from. We have had the oil pan replaced, and that is all that I can think of. Any suggestions. The mechanic said that the engine is shot, but the car runs really good and other than the noise, you wouldnt know antything is wrong with it. So how much would it cost to get the valve replaced. Its only one valve, I think he said for cylinder four.

Hi there,

You so called mechanic does not have much of an idea as to the workings of the engine, firstly you cant just get a bent valve, secondly if it was bent the engine would have a very bad miss fire and it would run with this miss at all revs, thirdly these engine have adjustable valve lifters and if the clearance is to great they will tap very loudly, go get a second opinion and get the valve clearances checked, I do feel that there is nothing wrong with you engine that a good mechanic can't fit with a re set o the valve clearances.
