I have replaced the thermostat and temperature Gage and flushed the radiator and it keeps overheating. Not all the time and with no regularity I live in Las Vegas so its pretty hot, some days I can drive around in 110 degrees with no problems others my car over heats as I am driving down the highway in 90 degree weather the air conditioner starts blowing out hot smelling musty and the car over heats over heats. Its driving me nuts it seems to only happen when I have my newborn daughter in the car and the Air conditioning is needed the most. Its even just stooped running once while driving down the highway because it was over heated

Sounds like heater core is leaking. Is it a sweet smell, could be antifreeze leaking out of heater core.

Are both your radiator fans working? When you turn on the air conditioner do both radiator fans working? Are you loosing any coolant before you start overheating? Also how old is your radiator cap? I have seen bad radiator caps vent coolant over time till the car overheats. Also at what temperature reading on your temperature gauge does your radiator fan come on?

My car is overheating while it is parked with the ac either on or off. The temperature slowly starts climbing until the fan finally kicks in and cools it. Once fan turns off, it will go up slowly again. The coolant is fine both in the radiator and over flow container. What can it be?

I did open cap and wait til 190-195 water pump kicked in all seemed fine. Overflow seems to be fine but i'm loosing a bit of fluid. None on the floor however so its either burning off or leaking somewhere. Reservoir fills when hot and nearly drains when cool?

I'm still working on it.

Have coolant system pressure checked for internal leaks like head gasket/intake etc.

My car when run to the point the temp gauge gets hot up to the red on the gauge, the radiator fan does not even turn 'on'. I noticed the upper hose from the top of the engine block to the radiator is hot and the lower hose is cool. What is this an indication of?

For a start replace the thermostat and do something with the cooling fan then report back-

Or you wanna get down to the nitty gritty do below

Have it block and pressure tested-do the block first to pinpoint a combustion leaking into the cooling system or a gas analyzer to sniff for hydrocarbons at the radiator fill neck.

Pressure test: do not do a pressure test if there's leakage at the headgasket this might cause coolant into the cylinders and lock it up or bend a connecting rod if cranked thereafter. The headgasket should be repaired before doing the pressure test.

If the block and pressure test passes check the following:, Pressure test the Rad. Cap, Clogged radiator, air lock in the cooling system, Fan clutch, Radiator electrical fan, collaspe hoses, water pump

I have a 2000 honda civic. I hit a dog and a large hole was made on the drivers side bumber. I see something that looks like the radiator but I think its the air compressor maybe. It looks banged up and my car is leaking something. Does this sound right and is it as easy to change as the radiator?

You need to get the car inspected to determine the extent of damage to it. There is an A/C condenser, a radiator and possibly a transmission cooler all mounted in that area..

My car is a honda civic dx coupe year 2000
the gauges indicates that its over heating but the engine hasn't boiled out. Most sensors are changed. But still saying that its heating. I took it to the shop but they couldn't find anything. But until now its saying its over heating. When im driving in the freeway its running good but if I get stuck in traffic my gauge goes up and when im on the street on a stop and go motion. Can you please help me out. Its a automatic transmission. When I accelerate on gas the temperature goes back to normal but when I get slow down or a complete stop the gauge goes up.

@mhpautos
yes ive taken it to shop to have it looked but they could't find anything.
Is there anything else that could be wrong? They just flushed the radiator maybe 2 months ago, recently got an oil changed, changed the termostat, collant sensor, tempetature sesor and intake air temperature sensor. Fan works but sometimes doesnt kick in at the right time but sometime it works fine.

If the engine is not overheating but the gauge shoing it is, it could be a false reading and this could be due to a fault with the gauge, sending unit or a bad ground circuit.

@KHLow2008
would I be able to change the gauge?
If I was to go to the shop what would I have to tell them to check out the sending unit or bad ground circuit?
