I have an oil burning problem. It may sound wierd, but after an oil change, the oil would remain at the same level for the first 2700 miles, then it would burn through 2 qts of oil before it hits 3300 miles. I've also noticed that (I drive over an hour to work) that during traffic congestions (driving 1.5-1.75 hours) it would drop. I do drive quite fast to beat traffic. 85-90mph. There are no signs of oil leak, I do get some what white smoke comming from exhaust. What got me all scratching my head is why the first 2700 miles after an oil change, oil levels do not drop then at such a rapid rate? If it was a seal or PVC, should it not drop at a consistant rate?

Hi pollothegreat,

Oil consumption usually are caused by hardened valve seals and worn piston rings and that is indicated by the grey smoke that you see from the exhaust end.

When oil is new, it would stick and seal bettter so minimal consumption. As it gets older, it would be easier to burn off thus it accelerates after a certain mileage.
