Engine Performance problem
1999 Honda Civic 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 133K miles

I have a 99 Honda Civic EX Coupe that leaks oil. At first I assumed it was the gaskets because I took it to a lube shop and they said that's where it was coming from. Changed the gasket and then it kept leaking. It's coming from the top of the engine where the pistons are. But in the back where some little metal squarish type thing with a round cylinder meets with the metal part.

My mechanic has tried sealing it with silicone. And it hasn't worked. He says it is called the v-tec valve but I've looked for it at autozone, o reillys the likes but they never heard of it. It slowly leaks and I can't figure out where it is. Thanks.

No I haven't been to the dealer yet. I was just wondering if anyone knows the name. I'm sure when I go the dealer will tell me but who knows. They may charge me up the yin yang to fix it.

Yes, I agree. Is it possible for you to take a picture of the part and upload it for me to see?

Thanks,
Joe

Yes sorry I've been busy with school and other such things. I will post a picture tomorrow because it's dark tonight and I want the light to be good. Hopefully this topic hasn't fallen off where no one will see it.

Okay here is the picture...it's where my finger it's pointing. The thing with the little cylinder on top is leaking oil. I think it needs the gasket but I don't know the name of the part to put the gasket in.

Okay the second one is the closer picture of it. It screws onto the bigger part with three screws. I need to know the name of that whole part because I can't find the gasket without the name. Thanks in advance.

The overall assembly is the "lock up VTEC solenoid valve and oil pressure switch", and it is also referred to as the "cam adjust solenoid."
The top part, help on by the three bolts, is the "solenoid." The cylinder is the "cam adjust solenoid."
There are several orings and seals, so you will need to pinpoint the leak and then head off to the dealer to use their parts diagram to find the right one.
