Is cleaning the idle valve a "backyard" mechanic issue or does a real mechaninc need to do it? In other words, how involved is it to get to the idle valve and or does it need to be removed for cleaning or what?

Usually if it's causing an idling issue I like to remove the valve completely so I can fill it up with cleaner and let it sit for 2 minutes, then blow out the cleaner with compressed air and repeat until it's clean.

From a servicing aspect you can access the idle passage with just the intake tube off and you can clean it that way.
