My friend has a new baby and depends on her '97 Civic. It has stalled out 3-4 times in the last 3 weeks. She took it to the dealer and he said that it was a factory recall issue. They performed the repair but the car stalled out again. They have had the car for a couple days and can not make it happen again. They said they performed the recall repair according to specs and don't think that is the issue.

Hi EUGENEP,

Thank you for the donation.

We need to know more about the problem.

When engine stalled, was it easy to restart?

How often does it happen?

What is the idling engine rpm?

Does it happen only after engine has warmed up?

I GENERALLY HAPPENS AFTER HAVING DRIVEN FOR 5-10 MINUTES, THEN TURN ENGINE OFF FOR 5-10 MONUTES, THEN WHEN DRIVEN AGAIN WHILE ENGINE IS STILL WARM, IT SHUTS DOWN AGAIN. THE LAST TIME IT WAS REALLY HARD TO RESTART SO IT COULD BE PULLED OFF THE ROAD.

FYI, THE FACTORY RECALL WAS TO REPLACE THE ELECTRICAL PROTION OF THE IGNITIOIN. THE MECHANIC SAID IT SHOWED BURN MARKS IN THE HOUSING. THEY REPLACED THE FAULTY COMPONENTS.

Hi EUGENEP,

I would suggest checking the main relay. It is known to be prone to intermittent failure.
