HI I HAVE A 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX AND THE LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUT FLICKER SO I BOUGHT A NEW ALTERNATOR HAD IT INSTALLED AND NOW THE SAME PROBLEM I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE ALTERNATOR WAS CHARGING BY DISCONNECTING THE NEG BATTERY CABLE AND THE CAR SEEMS TO WANT TO DIE IT SPUTTERS LIKE ITS GOING TO DIE DOWN AND CUT OFF CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE THANK YOU

Hi ferk,

Removing battery negative terminals to test charging are old school theory that should NEVER be used for modern days vehicles. If there is a power surge, you could blow/fry some of the delicate electronic components and circuits. A voltmeter should be used to test the charging and since you are into DIY, it would be a handy tool to have.

Flickering of lights could be due to bad grounds and a battery that is not containing full charge. Check the negative cable ground at transmission, between body to engnine at timing belt side and harness at fenders.
