Just recently, my car started acting funny. It all started after I was leaving a shopping center and the car idled funny for a few seconds. The idle dropped to about 200 rpm and stayed there, then when I tried to accelerate the vehicle felt very sluggish even when I had the RPM's up to around 1500. Then it cleared up and the car began driving fine. But at the next stop light the idle was surging and it was rather high. It surged from 1000-1400 rpm and continued doing that. I continued driving at this point just trying to get home, but noticed the car began to overheat, and quickly. Even at highway speeds the temp was skyrocketing up to red. So I just barely managed to get home. When I got home though, there was no excessive heat from under the hood, no steam or other tell tale sign of something going wrong. Heres the strange part. I checked the oil and it was really low, but there are no oil leaks and the car doesnt burn oil. Also, the coolant is almost gone aswell, but it didnt steam up and the car didnt run strange or lose any power. What is going on here?

Hi there,

Fill up the fluids and go get a head check done, this is a quick and cheap chemical test to check for exhaust gasses in the cooling system, if so this will be a head gasket problem, also make sure that the thermostat is working correctly and the radiator is not blocked, start here.
