Is the transmission connected to the engine? Does the engine performance (check engine light) effect the speedometer?

Well you can get a check engine light if your vehicle speed sensor that is located in your transmission is faulty. You can also get a check engine light if your throttle position sensor, is faulty and they both can effect the speedometer, if that answers your question.
